Official release notes (https://github.com/Graphify-Labs/graphify/releases/tag/v0.9.94)
Nineteen community pull requests. A security pass on ingestion: a fetched URL with no hostname, with a malformed or zero port, or with embedded `user:pass@` credentials is now rejected before the request leaves, on the first fetch and on every redirect, and a text capture no longer follows a dangling symlink out of the corpus. Extraction and resolution: a Maven POM contributes only its own dependencies, a JS/TS member call on an untyped receiver stops guessing a same-named method in the same file, a CommonJS `require` binding no longer shadows the class the required file exports, and Objective-C category node ids stay repo-relative instead of embedding the absolute checkout path. SQL gets its own pass: T-SQL bracketed names are unbracketed, a `GO` batch separator ends the statement, cross-file table stubs fold onto their real definition, and a procedure emits `reads_from`/`writes_to` edges. Plus a markdown bare method only links when its class is cited, the MCP node lookup refuses a substring near-miss instead of answering with an unrelated node, a cross-repo edge points at the call site, Objective-C calls resolve across a split header/impl, an incremental build stops re-queuing files an extractor declined by design, a quoted Codex hook command for install paths with spaces, an IPv6 bracketed-`Host` serve fix, and a complete, drift-guarded `--platform` list in `--help`. The AST cache schema is bumped, so the first build after upgrading re-extracts.
- Fix: **security** `validate_url` rejects a fetched URL that has no hostname (`http:///path`), a non-numeric, out-of-range, or zero port, or embedded `user:pass@` credentials, before the request is made and again on every redirect, so a malformed or credential-bearing URL is no longer fetched or persisted into the graph; a normal `@` in a path or query and a valid high port still pass (#4643, #4644, #4645, thanks @cellrishi-code).
- Fix: **manifest** a Maven `pom.xml` contributes only its own `` (including those under ``), not the version pins under `` or a build plugin's own ``, so a parent or BOM POM no longer emits dependency edges it only manages (#4596, thanks @jayhemnani9910).
- Fix: **js** a member call on an untyped receiver (`x.foo()` where `x` has no known type) is deferred to receiver-typed resolution instead of binding to a same-named method elsewhere in the file, so a spurious self-loop or cross-call edge is no longer emitted; `this.foo()`, a typed receiver, and a locally instantiated receiver still resolve (#4598, #4605, thanks @ayushcodes10; reported by @SaschaAndresGrimm).
- Fix: **js** a CommonJS `const X = require('./m')` binding no longer mints a module-scope node that shadows the class the required file exports, so `new X()` resolves to the required declaration; a real `const x = factory()` binding still keeps its node (#4621, #4634, thanks @lab1207; reported by @sub4biz).
- Fix: **extract** an Objective-C category's class and method node ids stay repo-relative instead of embedding the absolute checkout path, so a category file like `Foo+Cat.h` yields portable ids that match across machines and merge cleanly; two same-named categories in different directories stay distinct (#4666, #4642, thanks @madhusudanpatnaik; reported by @xiongjianxu).
- Fix: **codex** the generated Codex PreToolUse hook command quotes the graphify executable path, so an install under a path containing a space no longer builds a broken hook command, matching the existing Claude and Gemini hooks (#4662, thanks @supercell02).
- Fix: **serve** an IPv6 HTTP bind accepts its own bracketed `Host` header (`[::1]:port`), so a server bound to an IPv6 loopback no longer refuses every request with a 421 (#4656, thanks @zydo).
- Fix: **ingest** a text capture never writes through an existing entry: the free-path search uses `lstat`, so a name that is a dangling symlink is treated as occupied and the capture is diverted instead of following the link and writing outside the corpus (#4657, thanks @zydo).
- Fix: **cli** `graphify --help` lists every accepted `--platform` value (it had omitted amp, copilot, kilo, kimi, and antigravity-windows); the list is derived from the same source as the install usage so the two cannot drift, with a guard test (#4655, thanks @zydo).
- Fix: **sql** T-SQL bracketed identifiers (`[dbo].[Orders]`) are unbracketed so a name matches across styles, and a stored procedure's body emits `reads_from`/`writes_to` edges for the tables it reads and writes; aliases, variables, temp tables, strings, and comments never become targets (#4635, #4649, thanks @Deepjyoti-Sarmah; reported by @RuVl).
- Fix: **sql** a `GO` batch separator (a client command, not a terminator) ends the statement, so a statement after a `GO` with no trailing `;` parses on its own instead of merging into one malformed node; a `GO` inside a string, comment, or column name is left alone (#4651, #4652, thanks @Deepjyoti-Sarmah).
- Fix: **sql** a table referenced before its `CREATE TABLE` is seen folds onto the real definition instead of staying a separate stub, and a schema-qualified name binds correctly, while two genuinely different tables in different schemas (`dbo.Orders` vs `sales.Orders`) stay distinct and a SQL stub no longer binds to a same-named class in another language (#4653, #4654, thanks @Deepjyoti-Sarmah).
- Fix: **markdown** a bare method name in prose (for example `redis` where only `Cache.redis` exists) only links to the method when the owning class is cited in the same document, so a plain word is no longer turned into a false `references` edge; a qualified `Class.method` or `Class::method` mention still resolves (#4609, #4617, thanks @nothariharan; reported by @saad-siddique).
- Fix: **mcp** the `get_node` and `get_neighbors` tools, and the `explain` command, refuse a substring-only near-miss with candidate suggestions instead of returning an unrelated node as the answer; an exact or prefix match still resolves (#3917, #4618, thanks @nothariharan; reported by @Alexandre-Aktisea).
- Fix: **cross-repo** a cross-repo call edge points at the real call site rather than the caller's header declaration, so the edge's `source_file` and `source_location` name the line that makes the call (#4668, #4669, thanks @xiongjianxu).
- Fix: **extract** an incremental build no longer re-queues, on every run, a code file an extractor declined by design (for example a virtual-workspace manifest); the file is marked `ast_empty` and left alone, while a genuinely failed or transiently empty extraction is still retried (#2543, #4672, thanks @xiongjianxu).
- Fix: **objc** a member call resolves when a class is split across a header and an implementation in different directories, binding the selector to its single definition; two unrelated same-named classes that both define the selector stay ambiguous and get no edge (#4673, #4674, thanks @xiongjianxu).

Cut agent token spend by 80%. Graphify Cloud is always-on memory that governs your agents, keeps code quality high, and proves correctness with formal verification. Start a free 14-day trial →
Type `/graphify` in your AI coding assistant and it maps your entire project (code, docs, PDFs, images, videos) into a **knowledge graph** you can **query instead of grepping** through files.
- **Code maps for free, fully local.** Code is parsed with tree-sitter AST: deterministic, no LLM, nothing leaves your machine. (Docs, PDFs, images and video use your assistant's model, or a configured API key, for a semantic pass.)
- **Every edge is explained.** Each connection is tagged `EXTRACTED` (explicit in the source) or `INFERRED` (resolved by graphify), so you can tell what was read directly from what was inferred.
- **Not a vector index.** No embeddings, no vector store: a real graph you traverse. Ask a question, trace the path between two things, or explain one concept.
> [!NOTE]
> **Want this always-on?** [Graphify Cloud](https://app.graphify.com/login) keeps the graph live across your entire SDLC: monorepo and cross-repo support, formal verification, and code review with a bird's-eye view of your SDLC, plus connectors for Sentry, Jira, and more so incidents and tickets sit in the same graph as your code. **[Start a free 14-day trial at app.graphify.com](https://app.graphify.com/login)**.
The FastAPI codebase mapped by graphify. Every node is a concept, colors are detected communities, and the whole thing is clickable in graph.html.
**Get started** (30 seconds). Needs Python 3.10+ and uv (or pipx):
```bash
uv tool install graphifyy # install the CLI (or: pipx install graphifyy)
graphify install # detects your assistant and registers the skill
```
Then, in your AI assistant:
```
/graphify .
```
That's it. You get **three files**:
```
graphify-out/
├── graph.html open in any browser: click nodes, filter, search
├── GRAPH_REPORT.md the highlights: key concepts, surprising connections, suggested questions
└── graph.json the full graph: query it anytime without re-reading your files
```
The persisted graph includes `graph.schema_version` so integrations can detect
incompatible format changes, plus `graph.graphify_version` identifying the
Graphify release that produced it.
**One install, any assistant, any OS.** Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, and 20+ more, on macOS, Linux, and Windows: [pick your platform](#install).
---
## See it in action
Once the graph is built you query it instead of reading files. Real output, graphify run on the FastAPI codebase shown above:
```text
$ graphify explain "APIRouter"
Node: APIRouter
Source: routing.py L2210
Community: 2
Degree: 47
Connections (47):
--> RequestValidationError [uses] [INFERRED]
--> Dependant [uses] [INFERRED]
--> .get() [method] [EXTRACTED]
DefaultPlaceholder ModelField
```
Every edge carries a **confidence tag** (`EXTRACTED` = explicit in the source, `INFERRED` = derived by resolution), so you can tell what was read directly from what was inferred. `graphify query ""` returns a scoped subgraph for a plain-language question, and `graphify path A B` traces how any two things connect.
---
## What it does
What you get out of the box:
| Capability | What you get |
|---|---|
| **God nodes** | The most-connected concepts, so you see what everything flows through |
| **Communities** | The graph split into subsystems (Leiden), with LLM-free labels |
| **Cross-file links** | `calls` / `imports` / `inherits` / `mixes_in` resolved across ~40 languages via tree-sitter AST |
| **Query, path, explain** | Ask a question, trace the path between two things, or explain one concept, all against `graph.json` |
| **Rationale + doc refs** | `# NOTE:` / `# WHY:` comments and ADR/RFC citations become first-class nodes linked to the code |
| **Beyond code** | Docs, PDFs, images, and video/audio all map into the same graph |
| **Local-first** | Code is parsed locally with tree-sitter (no LLM, nothing leaves your machine); only the semantic pass over docs/media calls a backend, and only if you configure one |

## Install
> [!IMPORTANT]
> **Official package:** The PyPI package is `graphifyy` (double-y). Other `graphify*` packages on PyPI are not affiliated. The CLI command is still `graphify`.
The official source repository is [Graphify-Labs/graphify](https://github.com/Graphify-Labs/graphify).
The two-command quickstart is at the top of this README. This section covers the install methods, project-scoped installs, and every supported platform.
**Install methods** (pick one):
```bash
uv tool install graphifyy # recommended, isolated env (if 'graphify' isn't found after, run: uv tool update-shell)
pipx install graphifyy # alternative
pip install graphifyy # may need PATH setup, see Troubleshooting below
```
Then run `graphify install` once. It detects which assistant you run and registers the skill, so there is no per-assistant setup. Open your AI assistant and type `/graphify .`
To install the assistant skill into the current repository instead of your user
profile, add `--project`:
```bash
graphify install --project
graphify install --project --platform codex
```
Project-scoped installs write under the current directory, for example
`.claude/skills/graphify/SKILL.md` or `.agents/skills/graphify/SKILL.md` (plus a
`references/` sidecar the skill loads on demand), and
print a `git add` hint for files that can be committed.
Per-platform commands that support project-scoped installs accept the same flag,
for example `graphify claude install --project` or `graphify codex install --project`.
> [!TIP]
> Hitting `command not found`, a `pip`-on-Mac/Windows issue, PowerShell quoting, `uvx` usage, git-hook PATH quirks, or strict mode? See **[Installation](https://docs.graphify.com/installation)** and **[Troubleshooting](https://docs.graphify.com/troubleshooting)**.
Pick your platform (20+ assistants, click to expand)
| Platform | Install command |
|----------|----------------|
| Claude Code (Linux/Mac) | `graphify install` |
| Claude Code (Windows) | `graphify install` (auto-detected) or `graphify install --platform windows` |
| CodeBuddy | `graphify install --platform codebuddy` |
| Codex | `graphify install --platform codex` |
| OpenCode | `graphify install --platform opencode` |
| Kilo Code | `graphify install --platform kilo` |
| GitHub Copilot CLI | `graphify install --platform copilot` |
| VS Code Copilot Chat | `graphify vscode install` |
| Aider | `graphify install --platform aider` |
| OpenClaw | `graphify install --platform claw` |
| Factory Droid | `graphify install --platform droid` |
| Trae | `graphify install --platform trae` |
| Trae CN | `graphify install --platform trae-cn` |
| Gemini CLI | `graphify install --platform gemini` |
| Hermes | `graphify install --platform hermes` |
| Kimi Code | `graphify install --platform kimi` |
| Amp | `graphify amp install` |
| Agent Skills (cross-framework) | `graphify install --platform agents` (alias `--platform skills`) |
| Kiro IDE/CLI | `graphify kiro install` |
| Pi coding agent | `graphify install --platform pi`, plus `graphify pi guard install` for the native guard |
| Cursor | `graphify cursor install` |
| Devin CLI | `graphify devin install` |
| Google Antigravity | `graphify antigravity install` |
Codex users also need `multi_agent = true` under `[features]` in `~/.codex/config.toml` for parallel extraction. CodeBuddy uses the same Agent tool and PreToolUse hook mechanism as Claude Code. Factory Droid uses the `Task` tool for parallel subagent dispatch. OpenClaw and Aider use sequential extraction (parallel agent support is still early on those platforms). Trae uses the Agent tool for parallel subagent dispatch and does **not** support `PreToolUse` hooks, so AGENTS.md is the always-on mechanism.
`--platform agents` (alias `--platform skills`) targets the generic cross-framework [Agent-Skills](https://github.com/anthropics/skills) locations: the spec's user-global `~/.agents/skills/` (read by `npx skills` and spec-compliant frameworks) for a global install, and `./.agents/skills/` for a project (`--project`) install. The bare `graphify install` stays single-platform (Claude Code) by design: use the named `agents` platform when you want the skill discoverable by any framework that reads `.agents/skills`.
Pi has no `PreToolUse` hook, so `graphify pi guard install` registers a native Pi extension (via Pi's own `pi install `) that runs the installed `graphify hook-guard` before Pi's `read`, `grep`, `find` and search-style `bash` calls. Fresh/stale graph decisions and the `GRAPHIFY_HOOK_STRICT=1` once-per-session indexed-read denial come from that same policy, so Pi matches Claude Code's hook behavior; guidance arrives as a `` steering message. It needs Pi 0.58.4 or newer: earlier versions let a steering message skip the rest of a parallel tool-call batch. The package ships inside the Graphify installation, so install Graphify persistently (`uv tool install graphifyy` or `pipx install graphifyy`, not `uvx`), restart Pi after installing or upgrading, and remove it with `graphify pi guard uninstall`. Only local file targets are inspected; the hook needs `graphify` on an absolute `PATH` entry outside the project, is bounded to a two-second, 256 KiB-in/64 KiB-out call, and fails open. The same package also loads in [Oh My Pi](https://github.com/can1357/oh-my-pi): `omp plugin install "$(graphify pi guard path)"`. The registered path contains the Python version and venv, so re-run `graphify pi guard install` after changing either, and remove the old entry with `pi remove `.
> Codex uses `$graphify` instead of `/graphify`.

## Make your assistant always use the graph
Run this once in your project after building a graph:
Run `graphify install` once in your project, for example `graphify claude install` or `graphify codex install` (or `graphify install --platform `).
This writes a small config file that tells your assistant to consult the knowledge graph for codebase questions, preferring scoped queries like `graphify query ""` over reading the full report or grepping raw files.
- **Hook platforms** (Claude Code, Gemini CLI): a hook fires automatically before search-style tool calls (and, on Claude Code, before reading source files one by one via the Read/Glob tools) and nudges your assistant toward the graph path.
- **Instruction-file platforms** (Codex, OpenCode, Cursor, etc.): persistent instruction files (`AGENTS.md`, `.cursor/rules/`, etc.) provide the same query-first guidance.
`GRAPH_REPORT.md` is still available for broad architecture review.
Exactly which files each platform writes (CodeBuddy's `CODEBUDDY.md` + `PreToolUse` hooks, Codex's `AGENTS.md`, Kilo's native `.kilo` plugin, Cursor's `alwaysApply` rule, and so on) is covered in **[Always-on setup](https://docs.graphify.com/guides/always-on)**.
To remove graphify from all platforms at once: `graphify uninstall` (add `--purge` to also delete `graphify-out/`). Or use the per-platform command (e.g. `graphify claude uninstall`).
### CLI skills or MCP instructions?
The instructions installed by `graphify install` and those supplied with a Graphify MCP connection describe different ways to query a graph:
| Setup | Guidance to use | Query access |
|---|---|---|
| Local CLI and installed assistant skill | The platform instructions written by `graphify install` | Run `graphify query`, `graphify path`, and `graphify explain` against the local graph (`graphify-out/` by default). |
| Connected Graphify MCP server | The connection's instructions and the tools listed by that server | Call the listed MCP tools against the graph served by that connection. Tool names and descriptions come from the server. |
Both encourage scoped graph queries before broad source searches. Choose the instructions that match the tools your assistant can actually access; neither block establishes a universal precedence rule for your assistant's instruction files. If you use both integrations, identify which graph each queries and choose a primary query path instead of copying two unconditional instruction blocks into `AGENTS.md`.
`graphify install` installs the local assistant integration; it does not establish an MCP connection. An MCP client does not need to run local CLI queries to use its connected server. A locally hosted server still needs its own Graphify installation and graph, while a hosted connection may serve a graph that is not present in the client's working directory. If the expected tools are missing, check the relevant CLI installation or MCP connection rather than treating the other setup's instructions as interchangeable.

## What's in the report
`GRAPH_REPORT.md` summarizes the god nodes, communities, and key paths for broad architecture review. How the graph is built and what it contains: **[How graphify works](https://docs.graphify.com/concepts/architecture)**.
---
## What files it handles: ~40 languages
graphify parses ~40 programming languages locally with tree-sitter AST, and maps docs, PDFs, images, and audio/video through an optional semantic pass. Full list: **[Supported inputs](https://docs.graphify.com/concepts/supported-inputs)**.
---
## Common commands
```bash
/graphify . # build graph for current folder
/graphify ./docs --update # re-extract only changed files
/graphify . --cluster-onl
