Unity officially released the Claude Code and OpenAI Codex official plugins, providing development skills for AI code agents that are written and maintained by the Unity team. The current version of Codex includes 31 skills, covering areas such as user interface, 2D graphics, URP rendering pipeline, audio, navigation, physics, in-app purchases, multiplayer games, and localization. It also supports creating new projects with editors, version control, and packages, as well as migrating old projects to URP.
Unity stated that general AI agents usually generate code based on forum posts and tutorials, which can lead to code being developed using outdated engine versions. Although the code may compile, it might not perform as expected in practice. This plugin supports Unity 6 and higher versions and can be installed through the Codex plugin directory or via npm with Claude Code.
As language models gradually become the entry point for complex software, AI agents are accelerating their entry into the game and 3D content development fields. Previously, Blender supported interaction with language models through mechanisms such as MCP. Products like Know3D and World Labs Atlas have also started exploring the generation and manipulation of 3D objects and scenes through natural language.
