Serving tech enthusiasts for over 25 years. TechSpot means tech analysis and advice you can trust. The takeaway: Thanks to chatbots and AI models, the number of coding newbies trying to build new software tools is exploding. When it comes to browser add-ons, AI-assisted coding can put significant strain on review infrastructure. Microsoft has apparently found a way to keep things fresh and moving quickly even in this new vibe-coded world. Microsoft is reacting to AI-coded Edge extensions by using more AI and automated checks in the add-on review process itself. The company highlights the rapid adoption of "AI-assisted" coding among add-on developers but remains committed to retaining the same quality that the Edge ecosystem had before the vibe-coded era. Redmond recently highlighted how building a working browser extension is now easier than ever. However, the Cambrian explosion in add-on development and submissions is forcing the company to change its review policies in some rather significant ways. Microsoft still considers vibe-coding a welcome improvement overall, as developers can significantly reduce the time needed to iterate on and build their extension projects. However, Redmond's programmers will have to rely on a more automated review process. Most likely, the company is using even more AI-based functionality to automate many of the "repeatable validation checks" that are part of an add-on review procedure. Quality standards in the review policy should remain the same, while Redmond is using AI to quickly identify well-known violations and security issues in submitted code builds. Meanwhile, human reviewers will be tasked with handling more complex cases that still require an intelligent, analog being behind the desk. The new approach should benefit both extension makers and Microsoft. Third-party developers can expect their updated builds to move faster through the review pipeline, while Redmond can try to make the Edge ecosystem the best place to publish, grow, and download browser add-ons. // Related Stories Microsoft Edge now has an official Linux support list, seven years after Chrome's I Vibecoded Morrowind, Duke Nukem, and Serious Sam Onto an iPhone Furthermore, Microsoft is also changing how the Edge add-on store promotes high-quality extensions to users. The "Featured" badge has always been designed to signal that an extension is a trusted piece of code with a commitment to quality, reliability, and security. Now, the badges are being refreshed every 15 days to improve the discoverability of well-developed extensions. Microsoft's goal is to "make it easier for users to find extensions they can trust while ensuring developers who invest in quality are recognized more quickly." Browser add-ons are increasingly being abused by cybercriminals to compromise sensitive data or steal valuable cryptocurrency stashes on both Chrome and Chromium-based browsers like Edge. Microsoft's "Featured" badge has already proven ineffective against malicious add-ons.
